9 opportunities this week, including a DreamWorks Animation TV music internship, and elevator music for a game about cleaning an abandoned office

Also: €400 from an animation school for a seven-minute graduation short with punk in the mix, and three gameplay tracks for a chess-like strategy game.

An animated student short told almost entirely in American Sign Language pays $350 for just under four minutes of score, which has to elevate the emotion of the signing as if it were spoken word. DreamWorks Animation is taking a spring intern into its TV music department at $18.47 an hour. Final-year students at Supinfocom Rubika have €400 from their school to score a seven-minute 3D graduation short. A Sheridan College thesis film about a nun fleeing the undead pays $300 flat and is looking for one or two composers for its two tracks. On the game side: elevator music for a cleaning game with a Steam page, three tracks for a chess-like strategy game, NES-style writing with modern production, Homeworld-inspired space music, and an unpaid chiptune brief. Of the 305 listings I read this week, nine are in the issue.

TV Music Intern, Spring 2027 — DreamWorks Animation

DreamWorks Animation (NBCUniversal) · $18.47/hour · Glendale, CA · Part-time internship (24 hours a week) · Applications close October 19

DreamWorks Animation's TV music department wants a spring intern to observe music meetings and recording sessions, attend spotting sessions, process cue sheets, handle music publishing requests and pull music for the editorial team. The posting pitches it as a way to learn how music is made for film and TV, with an insight into day-to-day production needs and the administrative duties crucial to the process. Eligibility is narrow. It is for students and recent graduates studying music, the music industry or something related, who are authorised to work in the US without visa sponsorship and willing to work in person in Glendale from 25 January to 1 April 2027.

Indie

Composer — 'How To Be A Boy'

Supinfocom Rubika students (r/composer) · €400 · Location not stated · 3D animated graduation short (7 min) · Score draft due April 15

Final-year 3D animation students at Supinfocom Rubika are making a seven-minute graduation film about Cléo, an eight-year-old spending a dreadfully boring summer at her grandparents' in rural northern France. Her solution to doing whatever she wants is to become a boy. They want a composer comfortable with punk among other styles, available mainly from March to June, with a full first draft of the score due April 15 and the film releasing at the end of June. The €400 is the school's budget for the score, and selected candidates get an excerpt of the animatic to try a quick mock-up.

Composer — 'Swamp Roots'

Grayson (Crow) (CastingCall.club) · $350 flat · Location not stated · 2D animated student short (~3:30) · No deadline stated

A 2D student short told almost entirely in American Sign Language, in which Scarlett, grieving her recently deceased roommate, weighs whether to stay in or leave her conservative hometown. The score is a somber, cinematic soundtrack of about 3:40–3:50 that must help elevate the emotion of the signing as if it were spoken word, with Life Is Strange 1's instrumental soundtrack as the reference. A sound brief, a cue sheet and an animatic will be provided, the deliverable is a .wav export from any software, and the poster asks for a website or past sample tracks, preferably in a similar style.

Composer — 'Creatures of Habit'

Paige Williams (CastingCall.club) · $300 flat · Location not stated · Animated thesis film · No deadline stated

A Sheridan College 4th-year thesis film about a young nun fleeing the undead parishioners who rise from the ground of her abbey at night. It wants two tracks: a calm ambient piece for an old church or monastery, and an instrumental chase track timed to the animation. It is looking for two composers, or one whose portfolio fits both, so ask whether the $300 is per composer or covers both tracks. After a portfolio round, shortlisted applicants get a rough cut and are asked for a small sample, and the director expects heavy one-on-one contact for work-in-progress updates and edits.

Composer — Office Cleanup Co.

OverCookedWalrusMeat (r/gameDevClassifieds) · Paid, rate not stated · Location not stated · Casual cleaning game · Two tracks needed before November 15

Office Cleanup Co. is a casual game about picking up trash in an abandoned office building, with a Steam store page, and its solo developer wants three to four tracks of relaxing elevator and office music at two to three minutes each. At least two are needed before the demo releases on November 15. The post is tagged hiring and mentions a limited budget without naming a figure; it wants a portfolio linked in your first message and rules out AI.

Composer — ColorNise

Ejurwutdely (r/gameDevClassifieds) · Paid, rate not stated · Location not stated · Turn-based strategy game · Wanted within 2–3 weeks of October 8

ColorNise is a chess-like, turn-based strategy game whose pieces colour the board as they move, and the team wants three gameplay tracks, one for each game mode, within two to three weeks. They have already found sample tracks that match the vibe but do not feel fully consistent together. The post links the current menu music, which they feel most confident in, and one of the gameplay tracks. It is tagged paid with no figure given, so name yours in your first message.

Composer — 2D retro side-scroller

Double Team Studios (r/gameDevClassifieds) · Paid, rate not stated · Location not stated · 2D side-scrolling game · No deadline stated

Double Team Studios wants NES-inspired compositions with modern electronic production: melodies that can be hummed, energetic rhythms and bright, punchy instrumentation, with references running from Ninja Gaiden II, Mega Man 3 and Kirby's Adventure to La-Mulana and LukHash. It rules out strict NES soundfont recreation, ambient or orchestral scoring, melody-light tracks and AI. The number of tracks, their length and the budget are open, and it asks for your typical rate. An edit says the post has drawn a huge number of responses, and the studio asks applicants to point directly at the samples that match.

Composer — Vapor Drives

whokickmydog (r/gameDevClassifieds) · Paid, rate not stated · Location not stated · Narrative strategy game (demo) · No deadline stated

A solo developer wants four tracks of around three to four minutes for a demo of Vapor Drives, a narrative strategy game. The Homeworld soundtracks are the biggest inspiration, and the brief asks for middle-eastern influenced writing with subtle hints of modern R&B and electronic music, aiming for something lonely, vast, melancholic and deeply meditative. It is work-for-hire, and the post says only that the budget depends on your experience, so price the rights into your figure. Music made with AI is ruled out.

Collaborative

Composer — Jack's Mighty Quest

LetSlow7202 (r/INAT) · Unpaid · Location not stated · Platformer / dungeon crawler (GameMaker) · No deadline stated

A hybrid platformer and top-down dungeon crawler in GameMaker that is moving past its placeholder audio. It wants two to three looping core tracks for the current build: a main menu theme, a top-down dungeon theme and a side-scrolling stage theme. Chiptune trackers such as FamiStudio, FamiTracker or Furnace suit the style, and the developer uses FamiStudio, so if you do too, you can trade .fms project files directly. It is unpaid, but the source code is public on GitHub, so you can judge the project before you commit.
